Seniors:  The College Counseling Office will mail in your supplemental material to colleges and not use the online option.  Make sure you give me any additional supportive material to include in the mailing, like an arts supplement, an athletic resume, or anything you want the colleges to have that might not fit into the common app format.

Even if you are not using Common App for your college applications, please follow the following protocol.  Remember, even if the school does not require teacher recommendations, we will want to have these on file for possible scholarship opportunities.

Seniors:  How to ask for letters of recommendation
_____Speak to the faculty member first and make sure you are on their list.

_____Register with Common App www.commonapp.org and I suggest you use the same log in as your Collegeboard account.

_____Complete the basic information:  name, address, school you attend, classes you are taking.

_____Go to “Download Forms”
https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/DownloadForms.aspx

_____Print out Teacher Evaluation form
https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/docs/downloadforms/Teacher_Evaluation.pdf

_____Note that your information will already be typed on the form.  If not, complete.  I recommend that you waive your rights, sign & date

_____Take to the faculty member(s) who have agreed to write for you.  Attach a note of thanks and date to return rec to Ms. Ulin

_____Print out Secondary School Report
https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/docs/downloadforms/SSR_School_Form.pdf

_____Make sure your senior courses are listed correctly for semester one and semester two. Waive, sign & date
_____Print out Mid-Year Report
https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/docs/downloadforms/MidYear_Report.pdf

_____Give both of these forms to Ms. Ulin

Feel free to use this as a check list.

Please stop by if you have any questions!

Warmly,
Ms. Ulin

Aloha!

Questbridge is an organization that assists low-income families with matching a great college.  http://www.questbridge.org/  FYI - Last year 98% of the finalists were from families making less than $60,000.00.  Please read through the information carefully and see if this is a path you would like to investigate

JUNIORS:  PLEASE NOTE – The SAT exam that we would like you to take is scheduled on March 13, 2010.  This is also the first Saturday of our Spring Break!!!!!  Please do not book tickets to go on a fabulous trip until after the test.  Sorry about that…..You would think that Collegeboard would be more considerate….

Seniors:  Interested in some one-on-one tutoring just before retaking the SAT or ACT?  Ms. Stephens is available for critical reading/writing brush ups.  Her number is 879-8353.  Ben Rogers – Seabury Hall Class of ’82 – has contacted Mr. Emde.  He is working as a math tutor in Makawao.  Please contact him through his web site.  http://www.crewtonramoneshouseofmath.com/

College News 8-17-09

Aloha Seniors!

Welcome back.  I want to hear all about your summer and I am looking forward to getting “The Form” back from you before my trip to the NACAC conference.  Remember, we can add to or take away from “The Form.”  We just need to be on the same time-line.

A few nuggets of info that have crossed by email lately that you might find interesting:

Common App is up and running!  www.commomapp.org.   Please watch the tutorial at https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/FAQ.aspx.  We are planning to submit teacher recs and school forms online this year!  Make sure you have talked with faculty who will be writing your letters of recommendation.

Retaking SAT or ACT?  The SAT and SAT SUBJECT TESTS will take place on October 10.  Register by 9/9/09 @ www.collegeboard.com.  ACT TEST will take place October 24.  Register by 9/18/09 @ www.act.org.

Don’t think your test scores are reflective of your abilities?  The universe of accredited bachelor-degree granting colleges and universities which admit all or many applicants without regard to ACT or SAT scores is actually now greater than 820 institutions!  The full list, in alphabetical, state-by-state and PDF formats, is available free online at:       http://www.fairtest.org/university/optional

We already have visitors scheduled:
