Video is coming of age on the Internet. You can now add it to your teaching/research toolbox! Please feel free to explore the many interesting options below. NEWS Resources:

  • YAHOO search

    Click on the video tab to do a video search. A search for "mitosis animation" ("phrase searching" is your friend) will yield 46 results, including "mitosis.mov" from Carnegie Mellon. TRT: 1 min. 44 sec.

  • CNN Video

    Click on Video, on the left. Be prepared for an introductory 15 to 30-second commercial from the clip's sponsor. Also, you have to click on a video link before you get the "Search Videos" box. Otherwise, a good source of up-to-the-hour news. Archived for a week.

  • KITV

    Interesting two-step search: you type in your query at the upper right , then search again at the Search Results screen, by clicking on the video button.

  • PBS NewsHour - searchable by categories and keywords.

    An amazingly well-organized video archive which includes broadcasts after February, 2000. A search for keyword: George Bush category: Social Security, for instance, will yield: Bush on Social Security: Background (Election 2000)

  • C-SPAN


  • Channel One. Leading provider of news and educational programs for secondary schools.

    Examples: Report on Male Body Image and The Amazon

  • MSNBC News Video

    You must use Internet Explorer to access the video.

  • Voice of America

    International news from the Voice of America (VOA), a multimedia broadcasting service funded by the U. S. government, in 44 languages from the United States.

  • CNN Special Reports
Great (Mostly)Free Educational Web Resources, in no particular order:
  • Eduscapes. A portal to many video streaming resources, such as Video on Demand from the University of California and DiscoverySchool.com (example: Designer Babies under Contemporary Studies).
  • Teachers' Domain - Multimedia Resources for the Classroom and Professional Development. Registration is required, but FREE.
  • ResearchChannel is a "consortium of research universities and corporate research divisions dedicated to broadening the access to and appreciation of our individual and collective activities, ideas, and opportunities in basic and applied research."
  • Internet Archive: Moving Image Archive --Prelinger Archive, classic features and shorts, Mosaic Middle East News, more. Example: (a small version of) The Dark Side of the Web from the television program Net Cafè

  • EASE History - Videos and photographs from American history - historical events, campaign ads, core values
  • Open Video. The Open Video repository provides video clips from a variety of sources, especially various video programs obtained from U.S. government agencies such as the U.S. Records and Archives Administration and NASA.
  • Annenberg Teacher Resources - videos mainly for teachers.

    You can view Annenberg Media programs of your choice online with a broadband connection whenever you see the VOD icon. There is no charge for this service.

    Simply select a program and go to the individual program description listing and click on the icon. Free sign up required for first-time users. To hear the sound and view video, you should have Windows Media Player, DSL, a cable modem, or a LAN connection to a T1 line or greater, and have Javascript enabled.

  • Kennedy Center Archives - searchable archive of online broadcasts
  • Archaelogy Channel - archived videos, many from the Educational TV Network. Image is small.
  • American Memory: Motion Pictures - American animation history, history of Coca Cola commercials, Edison films, early 1900 collections
  • CyberLC - Library of Congress lectures on a variety of topics. Searchable and browsable.
  • BooksTV - complements Book TV, which features non-fiction books, on C-SPAN2.
  • History Channel Video Clip Archive - History-making audio speeches and video clips, browsable by category. Viewer
